Vacuum assisted breast surgery/ VABB

Minimally invasive method of removing benign breast lesions (fibroadenomas). Fibroadenomas uptil the size of 5-6 cms can be removed using this technique.

Advantages
- hardly any scar (2 mm)
- can be done as a day care procedure under local anaesthesia
- quick recovery (majority patients are back to work in 2-3 days)
- multiple lesions don’t require multiple incisions

Disadvantages
- cost is slightly higher than open surgery mainly because of the equipment cost

It’s been more than a year and a half since I have been using this technique and majority of the patients with fibroadenomas are shifting to this method rather than the open surgery.
