Tamara grew up on a beef farm in Australia, spending her childhood outdoors, blissfully unaware of the dangers of UV exposure. But in early 2015, everything changed when she was diagnosed with stage four melanoma that had spread to her liver. As a mother of a one-year-old and in her mid-thirties, she was facing down the unthinkable.

Tamara shares her personal journey through diagnosis and treatment, and the challenges of living with cancer. Now that she is aware of the importance of awareness and prevention in Australia, where complacency about skin cancer is all too common, Tamara has become a passionate advocate.

Fueled by her experience in surviving melanoma skin cancer, Tamara founded the Melanoma and Skin Cancer Advocacy Network (MSCAN) to advocate for those affected by this disease. The mission is to create change and ensure that no one feels alone in their battle.

Tamara Dawson shared her story with the Conquering Skin Cancer team and this is part of what she shared. You can see Tamara's story in the upcoming feature film Conquering Skin Cancer which will be released in cinemas across Australia in December 2024.
