A new blood test to detect cancer (plus new science on how it works)

The ctDNA test has actually been around for many years but new studies are showing it’s usefulness in breast cancer - especially triple negative.

Here’s how it works.

When cancer cells break down through their natural cell cycle, they release small pieces of genetic material into the blood stream. This is known as circulating tumor DNA.

With a simple blood draw, you can start to detect is tiny fragments of genetic material are present - meaning there is likely cancer somewhere in the body.

Now - what’s interesting is that these levels are starting to be used in triple negative breast cancer to determine likelihood of recurrence. If you have a positive test when you finish treatment, higher risk of recurrence.
