It's important to note that herpes infections can easily spread from one body area to another through contact. The first episode of a herpes infection may occur 3 to 7 days or more after contact, with symptoms such as a painful local reaction, single or grouped vesicles on an erythematous base, and possible systemic symptoms like fever and malaise.
