Colon cancer update! When do I need a colonoscopy? It might be sooner than you think

When do you need a colonoscopy? That can be a complicated discussion and there is now discussion in the medical community that we might need to start colon / colorectal cancer screening at 45 instead of 50. In this video, Dr. Scott Bland will talk through this issue with you. We will discuss the differing colon cancer screening guidelines from some of the differing medical societies as well as link you to those below so you can read them for yourself and discuss them with your physician. We'll describe that there are some racial disparities in terms of risk for colon cancer and how that might impact your decision to get screened for colon cancer. There is also some information about the pros and cons of colonoscopy alternatives and what symptoms to look for if you are asking, "do I have colon cancer". Please remember, this video is not a replacement for a discussion with your physician. Our hope is that this will allow you to have a more informed discussion, and if you have been overdue for screening, to motivate you to get the appropriate screening.
