It’s unclear what the risk factors are for cancer in and around breast implants. It’s also unknown what the incidence rate is, however, the FDA believes that the occurrence of cancer within the breast implant capsule is rare.

But an association has been found between breast implants and the development of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma, a type of cancer. Patients who have breast implants may have an increased risk of developing this cancer which mostly develops in the fluid or scar tissue surrounding the implant.
